DIY Winter Hair Care And Why It is Important
Winter means hair becoming dry, rough and brittle because of the cold. You can avoid this with hair masks that can be made at home. Also winter is a great season to get your hair into better shape. Since we shower with hot water, the skin and hair become drier than usual. To avoid your hair becoming dry, wash your hair with lukewarm water and yes it is cold but to seal your cuticles, pour some cold water on your hair and scalp. This closes the cuticles of your hair, helps give it shine, saves it from loss of moisture.
This season is even great because you get great fresh fruits and vegetables. Consuming them helps your hair get shine, health and volume.
Listed below are some great, easy and inexpensive ways to bring back the health in your hair.
- Yogurt, Lemon & Apple Cider Vinegar
The combination sounds odd but there is a method to madness! Yogurt is great for returning moisture, adding shine and making sure your hair stays moisturized for a long time. Lemon is rich in Vitamin C which helps in production of collagen. Collagen is key to hair growth and thick hair. Apple cider vinegar is a great pH balancer for your hair, cleans off any build up and adds immense shine to your hair.
You will need two tablespoons of yogurt, one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix them all together and apply it to your hair for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as per usual.
- Egg Yolk, Honey & Olive Oil
Egg yolk is great for hair because it is rich in biotin, vitamin A, E, folate and helps your hair grow. Honey is a great humectant and helps tame the frizz. Humectants are products which attract moisture and retain moisture, thus helping keep your hair less frizzy, moisturized and absolutely flawless! Olive oil as we all know is rich in vitamin E but it also has squalene and oleic acid. These help in restoring elasticity of your hair and reducing split ends.
- Yogurt And Banana Mask
Bananas are a great source of moisture, slip and it helps your hair shine. It has potassium and silica, which is basically superfood for your hair. Yogurt is a great addition to add slip, nourish and prolonged periods of moisture. You will need 1 ripe banana, ½ cup yogurt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mash the banana thoroughly, making sure there are no lumps, add the yogurt and oil and mix well. Make sure the mixture is homogeneous and has no lumps. Apply the mixture to your hair and scalp. Leave it for 45 minutes, wash it with regular shampoo and condition as you would, in lukewarm water.
- Honey, Coconut oil and Apple Cider Vinegar Mask
Coconut oil, albeit drying if used too much, is great if used sparingly and cold pressed coconut oil is the best for your hair. Coconut oil is great for avoiding flaky scalp, dry and brittle hair. It is also used as a leave-in mask for people who have curly and kinky hair. Honey is as always a great humectant, adds shine and a bounce to your hair. To balance the stickiness of the honey and oiliness of the coconut oil, apple cider vinegar helps and also maintains the pH balance of your hair. Put ½ cup coconut oil, 3-4 tablespoons of honey and 2-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, in a jar and shake it vigorously for 1-2 minutes. Then apply to your scalp and hair, leave for 30 minutes. Wash with regular shampoo and conditioner. If you have any leftover concoction, leave it in the jar and use it next time.
- Milk and Honey
Raw milk and honey is the easiest to make and extremely nourishing for the hair. Milk is a great conditioning agent and has many vitamins and minerals which keep your hair healthier for longer. It also helps to keep your hair moisturized. Honey as always, nothing bad can be said about it!
