Low Calorie Salads

Low calorie salads generally have fruits and vegetables which are not very high in calories, but it is the dressing that makes it high on calories. So know what can be changed and you can just enjoy a tasty, delicious and soul-satisfying salad.

Tangy Italian Salad

Ingredients

For Salad:

2 cups tomatoes, quartered, deseeded

1 cups cucumber, sliced

2 cups lettuce, torn into bite size pieces.

For protein you can add

Vegetarian and vegan: chickpeas, kidney beans, cottage cheese, tofu, tempeh

Non-vegetarian: Chicken, eggs

For dressing:

2 tsp crushed garlic

2 tsp chopped basil leaves

2.5 tbsp lemon juice

2 tsp olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. In case you have decided to add any vegetarian, vegan or non-vegetarian protein, then you can cook it separately, with the same ingredients that you use for the salad dressing.
  2. Toss all the salad ingredients in a bowl and set aside to chill.
  3. Add the dressing just before you serve/eat the salad.

Cabbage And Spinach Salad

Ingredients:

For Salad:

½ cup red cabbage shredded

½ cup cabbage shredded

½ cup spinach shredded

½ cup carrot grated thick

2 tbsp chopped walnuts

For dressing

1 tbsp finely minced garlic

2 tsp lemon juice

¼ tsp mustard powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. Toss all the salad ingredients together.
  2. Add the dressing just before serving and toss the salad well.
  3. Enjoy!

Sprouts And Veggie Salad

Ingredients

For Salad:

½ cup boiled sprouts of your choice

1 cup capsicum cubes (red, yellow or green.)

1 cup iceberg lettuce, torn into pieces

1 tbsp chopped spring onions

For Dressing:

½ cup low fat curd

½ tsp lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. Mix all the dressing ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, add and toss all the salad ingredients.
  3. When ready to serve, add the dressing and serve immediately.
  4. Enjoy
