Easy Healthy Breakfast Ideas – Indian Style

Kuttu & Samak Rice Dosa (Buckwheat & Barnyard Millet Crepes)

What you need for this easy healthy breakfast recipe 

  • Powdered barnyard millets or Samak Rice (just grind them in the grinder to a powder consistency)
  • Buckwheat flour (kuttu ka atta)
  • Himalayan Pink Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) or your regular salt
  • Cooking Oil of your choice

How to make this easy healthy Indian style breakfast

  • Just mix the powdered millets (samak rice) and buckwheat (kuttu atta) in 1:1 ration
  • Mix it with waterand create a semi-viscous paste.
  • Add the salt based on your taste and liking
  • Heat the pan on medium and grease it the oil
  • Spread the mix on the pan thinly and let it become a crepe

Whole Green Moong Cheela (Green Gram Savoury Pancakes)

This dish also has a low Glycemic Index – which means that it gives a sustained energy supply for a longer time and helps control diabetes too. It keeps you full for longer, suppressing unhealthy cravings and also releasing important nutrients into our system.

What you need for this easy healthy breakfast recipe 

  • 1 cup green mungbean (whole green gram)
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • Salt
  • ½ ginger, grated
  • 3-4 cloves of chopped garlic
  • A pinch of Red chilli pepper powder
  • Chopped Curry Leaves and Coriander (20 g each)

How to make this easy healthy Indian style breakfast

  • Soak the green grams in water for about 6 hours. You can leave them soaked overnight.
  • After soaking, ground the mix together into a batter
  • Add all the other ingredients to the batter and mix well
  • Check the salt and spice and add more if needed, as per your liking
  • Heat your flat pan on medium flame and grease it with the oil of your choice
  • Spread the batter on the pan and let it cook for a 2 minutes on medium flame
  • Once done, flip it over and cook the other side for about minute and a half
  • Serve it with a mint chutney, tomato sauce, or a coconut-peanut chutney

Egg Shakshuka and Toast Indian style

There are ample reasons why this one has made it to our list of easy healthy breakfast ideas. It is full of protein, deliciousness, essential micro nutrients, and is easy to prepare. Although this dish is of North African and Middle Eastern origins, we have our way of turning it into one of easy breakfast ideas Indians can get used to pretty quickly.

What you need for this easy healthy breakfast recipe 

  • 2 eggs per person
  • Slices of sourdough or any bread of your choice
  • ½  green bell pepper (capsicum) chopped
  • ½ red and ½ yellow bell pepper chopped
  • 2 medium onions chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes chopped
  • 100 g mushrooms chopped (optional)
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, chopped 
  • 6-10 Basil leaves (optional)
  • Spices like salt, red chilli flakes, thyme, oregano, black pepper, cumin powder

How to make this easy healthy Indian style breakfast

  • Heat a serving spoon of your cooking oil on medium flame in the pan
  • Once hot, add the garlic and green chillies to it. Cook for 30-45 seconds till they’re golden
  • Add the onions and stir until they’re translucent
  • At this point, add the chopped bell peppers and tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Now, add the mushrooms and cook until they’re well done
  • Add the spices such as a pinch of thyme, a tsp of orange, chilli flakes, bleck pepper, salt, etc.
  • Now, use your spatula or ladle to create as many gaps in the sauce mix you’ve cooked as there are eggs
  • In these gaps, break the eggs whole and let them fry (softly poach)
  • Season the eggs with a pinch of salt, black pepper, oregano, and chilli flakes
  • Once the eggs are half fried, turn the heat off and serve the dish in the pan
  • Enjoy with  side of bread slices or toasts
