Cakes are one of the most loved, ubiquitous and commonly enjoyed recipes all around the world. Different types of cakes have become an important part of human culture, from celebrations and festivities to special occasions, or as a simple delight. Most of all, nowadays, bakers are no less than artists that create cakes that resemble real-life objects. In fact, you can’t even tell apart the cake from the actual object it is trying to imitate.

However, did you know that different countries and regions around the world have their own special types of cakes? Through this blog, we are going to take you on a global journey through the different types of cakes all around the world.

Tiramisu – Italy

Tiramisu is a classic dessert made with a special type of Italian cake, known as ladyfingers. Ladyfingers are typically finger-sized and are soaked in coffee when they need to be used to make Tiramisu. The modern, more popular version of Tiramisu is alcohol-doused, typically soaking the ladyfingers also in dark rum, amaretto, or a coffee liqueur such as Kahlua.

To prepare Tiramisu, you need to layer coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and cocoa powder, one over another.  It blends a myriad of flavours, with the bitterness of coffee beautifully balanced by the creamy sweetness of mascarpone cheese. Tiramisu is served chilled and is found in most Indian cafes and bakeries nowadays.

Black Forest Cake – Germany

Known in German as Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, this famous cake hails from the Black Forest region of Germany. Now found in almost every bakeshop across the world, the black forest cake is a combination of layers of chocolaty sponge cake, whipped cream, and cherry filling.

It comes in various flavours such as vanilla, lemon, chocolate, and orange. It’s often served with a dusting of powdered sugar, or a caramel or sugary graze, or frostings. It can also be enjoyed plain.
